ESP / Axual Kafka platform
This page explains how to work with the ESP (Axual Kafka) platform after the reorganization. It focuses on who owns what and where to go for topics, schemas, connectors and incidents.
Ownership and scope
The former Integration Team no longer manages Axual.
The Cloud & SRE team operates:
- The ESP / Axual Kafka platform within Eneco
- Topic lifecycle for ESP topics (creation and changes), which is still a manual process
- The schema registry management repo that is used for self service schema registrations
- The connectors configuration repo that is used for managed sinks, including Snowflake
- Axual portal access for Eneco teams
The external party CMC (Conclusion Mission Critical) / Axual operates:
- The underlying Axual Kafka infrastructure
- Network level access on the ESP side (IP allow listing, load balancers, and related components)
- Runtime of managed connectors on the Axual side
- Schema registry service
Application, data and cloud responsibilities are split as follows:
- Application or value stream teams own:
- Producer and consumer applications
- Azure resources such as Event Hubs, IPs and VNets
- Client certificates and renewal of those certificates
- Data and Snowflake platform teams own:
- Snowflake tables, schemas and grants that are used by ESP connectors
If you are not sure whether something is in scope for ESP or Kafka, ask in #help-sre or #data-infra on Slack.
